Nilgiri Bamboo (stem/twig) and Yunnan Snow Chrysanthemum (Ju Hua)
Garden: Coonoor Estate, Nilgiris, South India (tea) / Kunlun Mountain, Xinjiang Province (buds)
Cultivation: Organic / Natural
Harvest: Spring 2018 (tea & buds)
Taste: Mild and flowery
Size: 75g & 150g
This blend combines high-grade chrysanthemum buds with low-caffeine green tea made from stems of the tea plant.
The Indian producers of this tea were inspired to follow the lead of the Japanese tea farmers by retaining the stems and processing them in the style of Chinese Dragonwell, traditionally known as Longjing (flattened and pan-fired). On its own, the tea has a unique aroma and flavour. It is less bitter than many green teas, and has a slightly nutty flavour with just a hint of jaggery sugar.
Chrysanthemum is among the more popular flowers grown in China for its diversified beauty of colours, shapes, shades and health benefits. It is often called, 'Queen of East' or 'Glory of the East.' When infused with the green tea, the taste is mild and flowery; similar to chamomile. Try it with a little honey.
Brewing Advice: 4 grams, 100 degrees, 2-4 minutes (multiple infusions)
