WuYi ZhengShan XiaoZhong (Lapsang Souchong)
Garden: Tong Mu Guan Village, WuYi Mountain, Fujian, China
Harvest: Spring 2019
Taste: Dark cocoa, dried fruits, oak barrel and spice
This superfine black tea is known by the Chinese as ZhengShan XiaoZhong ("mountain tea made from the small bush"). It is made using the lower leaves of tea plant and lightly smoked in the authentic and original way (quite different from the heavily smoked Lapsang Souchong, which has an assertive tarriness). The dry leaf features toasty and exotic aromatics, like catching a whiff of smoke in the forest. On the palate, the dark amber liquor is rich and smoulderingly delicious with a deep burbon-soaked oak barrel flavour. A great companion for hearty winter food, this tea will redefine your assumptions about Lapsang Souchong.
Brewing Advice: 2-3g, 100°C, infuse for 3 minutes (multiple infusions)
