WuYi Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe) Oolong
Garden: Tong Mu Guan Village, WuYi Mountain, Fujian, China
Harvest: Spring 2017
Taste Notes: Special 'rock' aroma with nuts, chocolate and flowers.
Da Hong Pao or Big Red Robe is the most famous of all Chinese oolongs. Chinese legend states that the mother of a Ming Dynasty emperor was cured of an illness by tea made from Camellia bushes growing on WuYi Mountain. The Emperor then ordered great red robes to clothe the bushes in order to honour their greatness. Six of these bushes still grow today in the nutrient rich volcanic soils of WuYi and are greatly venerated.
This version of Da Hong Pao is grown naturally in a small family plot on WuYi Mountain and hand-plucked just twice a year. Sweet and thick in the mouth, this tea is a reminder of how unalterated leaves can produce such flavour, such incredible energy, such vitality.
Brewing Advice: 4-5 grams, 95-100 degrees, infuse for 120 seconds (multiple infusions)
